A musical comedy about a young boy discovering his family’s history through music and the storytelling of his grandfather.
Music & Lyrics by Michael Antin
Book by Michael Antin and Leonard Bloom
SYNOPSIS
When a troubled 11-year-old is given a school assignment to find out about his family’s background, the tale is set in motion for his stubborn grandfather to relate some familiy history to him.
The stories and songs take us on a flight from France during World War II, to Nashville, then to Los Angeles. These funny, and sometimes sad, tales of family history slowly bring the family together in ways they never would have imagined. How did Grandpa and Grandma meet and fall in love? What did Grandpa really do in World War II? Was there really a Jewish horse thief in the family? How did Grandpa end up dealing cards in a Nashville riverboat?
Even the boy’s father, a non-Jew, learns about the power of talking about one’s family and problems to his loved ones. As one of the songs goes, “The more you live, the more you learn. The more we give, the more we earn.”
