Hi. I’m Michael Antin
Michael always had an interest for music, having played five instruments and student conducted the All-Southern California High School Orchestra even before attending high school!
Upon entering UCLA, he joined the choir, conducted by Rodger Wagner and moved on to the Chorale. He was the only non-music major admitted to the music honorary fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Michael chose to leave music behind when he entered law school – earning his JD, and also passed his C.P.A exam. He enjoyed a long legal career with highlights including being a published legal author, lecturer, expert witness and recognition as a Super lawyer in LA Magazine for several years.
Retiring in March 2008 after 45 years of practice as a tax lawyer, Michael went back to his creative roots – devoting himself again to music and the theatre.
In retirement, he resumed piano lessons and joined a choir. His piano teacher motivated him to write lyrics and to compose, resulting in a proliferation of songs.
His teaching experience, as a Visiting Professor of law, at Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California Berkeley, and in numerous countries of central Europe, brings a special perspective to his playwriting.
A cabaret singer heard some of his work and motivated Michael to write what became his first musical, Answer the Call. Additional experiences and relationships with people led to the development of his other works – Butterfly, Sophia, Renewal, Pillars of New York, Lili Marlene and Swing!
Michael is an avid contributor to his community as an involved member of Valley Beth Shalom synagogue in Encino, and sits on the board as the president of the Bel Air Knolls Property Owners Association.
